Grandpa's birthday.....and more snow!

Last night Mom, Myah and I went to Grandpa O's 82nd birthday party. There were only about 15-20 people there(small gathering for the "O" family, but it was lots of fun. The ride home wasn't so great though! It was snowing, but not before a bunch of icy rain had fallen. The roads were quite bad and it took us quite a while longer than normal to get home. Thankfully Myah and I both were able to fall asleep for a while!
Nothing much is new here on the farm. We are still plugging away at keeping barns/pens clean, keeping kids exercised(they can't go outside because it is too wet and we don't want to risk coccidiosis and it is good for them to run around and build up muscle), school and just living life. Hope you all are enjoying you day!

!!!Snow in March!!!

Yikes folks! We have about a foot of snow here! It is the 22nd of March and I was sure we were done with this! But, I suppose that is what we get for living in Michigan! Unpredictable and we were smack dab in the middle of the storm! All the animals are doing well though feeling quite cooped up, especially the kids. They are about as anxious to get outside in the sun as we are. Hard to believe that just a few days ago they were all laying outside in the sun and having a great time. Now there is a foot of snow there! Oh well! I am sure we will have fun outside and maybe we will pull a few kids out to see how they like the snow! I might try to take some pictures of that!
To those who got hit with snow recently; keep warm!

Mandie's kids

Just for a little more info on Mandie's kids, she had a doe(Mindie) and a buck(unnamed) on Monday (or Tuesday, we aren't quite sure which as she had them around midnight!!!). They are quite cute as usual, but have quite beautiful markings. The buck is black and white with a few spots on his neck and the doe looks quite a bit like her mama except that she is dark brown and white instead of black and white.

Mastitis

Monday was a day mixed with dissapointments and praises. We Loona came down with gangrene mastitis so she will never be milked again. We were all so disappointed. We weren't even sure that we were going to be able to save her, but we got a call from the vet yesterday morning(she was at the vet)saying that is going to pull through! What is even better, one side of her udder may still be usable though we will only use it to get colostrum out of. Praise the Lord! We also had some of our best babies born in the wee hours of the morning. A doe and a buck from our Lamancha(Mandie) was exactly what we needed to keep our spirits up! God never gives us more than we can bear right? She is at home now and hopefully is on the mend. We now need to disinfect our whole barn or we could have a mastitis epidemic! So....I guess we know what we will being doing today!

Edited to say that sadly Loona died on 3-19-08. She will be sadly missed by our whole family.

New Nubians

No more babies born since the previous post, but Mandie is due today. Wednesday we picked up 3 unregistered Nubians-2 dry yearlings and a 1 week old kid. I am not quite sure how long they will stay, but we are hoping to at least breed them and keep them for a while. They are nice does and came from a relatively closed herd. Hope they turn out! I am going to register them as grades as soon as we get names picked out for them. If you are interested in Nubians or any doe kid or 4H weather, you can email me.
